Hard Drive addition to the control room.

I have the opportunity to buy a new Alesis HD24 with all the gear in the box for about $1,000.oo.
We've been a Sony/MCI JH24 for years. My son now wants ot add a hard derive system to the control room. Is this a reasonable choice?

.

Although Alesis is one of the best choices of low-end gear, if you are used to the sony, you will be very very dissapointed. This is indeed a bad choice in your case.

Your best bet is getting a good quality computer with a huge hard drive and installing Cubase or Pro-tools.
