Total noob, would like some info on some "shit" I

Hey everyone im totally new at the engineering game but have just rushed out and picket up a throw away PA system. It came as 2 speakers and a "mixer" connected via 1/4' leads. Im not sure if this is the usual thing but i thought pa's used something else. SO yeah its a 4 channel mixer with no mic inputs on it, as in there is no XLR input for it, only 1/4 inch inputs... i dont know why this is but i was wondering if there was any way to run a mic through it, getting it to come out the PA's speakers.... cheers.

Try to get a cable that has xlr to 1/4' or sometimes on the back of speakers there is an input to put a microphone into so you dont even have to put it in the mixer.
