drum mics & ... PZM?

Is it even worth buying a matched set for drums (my studio has a 7-piece with a monstrous assortment of cymbals and accents), or shall I just do the usual thing and use my AKG kick mic and a couple other special mics and SM57s for whatever else?
Oh, and what is a Pressure Zone Mic anyway? I'm so confused. My fiancee's older brother gave us a bunch of random equipment (drum set, mics, a Roland Jazz Chorus, ton of pedals, etc.), and this was included, and I have no clue what exactly it does. Can someone help?

pzm mics

Pressure-Zone mics aka Boundary mics are built in such a way that you can put them off at a distance and still pick up a good amount of direct sound with few reflections. Go ahaed and put a pair of those on the floor away from the drum set and see if you like what you hear.
