I bought a dynamic mic to use with my computer yesterday but when i plug it in and sing with it, i can't hear any playback of my voice coming out of the speakers. I've tested the hardware in the audio propeties and the mic works fine and gives playback on there, but when i am just using the mic out of the hardware test, i don't seem to get any playback from the mic.
I basically want to hear my voice as i sing... just like a karaoke machine. Any suggestions

What is your soundcard / sound interface? If it is generic, open up little speaker down in your fast click bar (the one by the clock) and click "Playback" radio button.
Then hit "What You Hear" button. This will allow you to hear when you are using the mike.

Hi
Thank you for the reply. I'm not too sure what my soundcard / sound interface is to be completely honest. I'm running windows XP on a dell dimension if that means anything to you. On my fast clcik bar there is a speaker you can click which either ajusts the sound volume or you can click on sound properties but there doesnt seem to be anything to do with it in there either....
Maybe these will help

I've got the exact problem... my wife wanted to use my pc as a karaoke machine so i downloaded some software. I think it might be the sound card or driver... but if anyone out there knows how to solve this problem please let us know.
