pan problem

I was listening to a recorded, burned cd and noticed playback was mostly on my left side, using headphones. I'm using firestudio with cubase. I tried several pairs of headphones with the same results either plugged into my stereo disk player or into my firestudio for playback. All is wired correctly. I tried tweaking the pans to the right and left directly in the cubase recorded song then listening through the earphones. seems to all go left ok but to the right, it just seems to center only. Wouldn't it be more accurate to listen through the firestudio for balancing? The balancing sound between me plugged into the firestudio pre-export sounds different than the wma exported burned cd. Is there a tweak somewhere I could do or is it possible my hearing is going south. jim
