Trebas Institute

hello... lately i have been giving pleanty of thought to applying at trebas insitute for the audio engineer technology program... http://www.trebas.com/en/toronto-ae.php
but i am very skeptical of this program/school...
for starters... tuition is a fortune... (est. CAD$12,000 +)
next subject of concern... the program is only 39 weeks long.. is that sufficient time to become proficient and knowledgeable in a.e.t.?
lastly... would this be the biggest mistake of my life?.. hah.. just had to ask it....
i will be thankful for any offer of insight...

cheers
ulric

Recording schools really only do one thing... they prepare you to START learning about audio engineering. They give you the basic concepts and theories (along with limited lab time), but the biggest component of AE is experience, which you can only get from being in a studio in the trenches on client projects.

When you graduate from a recording school, that's when your education REALLY begins....

Check out The Academy of Recording Arts (TARA) - I know the owner of the Ottawa facility and it's quite comprehensive. They also have a facility in Toronto....

I have posted this in another topic aswell...

I have just got accepted to SAE Institute of Liverpool. Its a 12 month intensive programme, with lots and lots of hands on experience.
I am paying just a bit over 5000 pounds, which is reasonable.

You may wanna check out Full Sail aswell. There are many around, just gotta find the right one for you.

hey bro,

listen to BlueBearSound; go to TARA, it's where i'm going in September. i scoped out Harris Institute, Trebas and TARA. TARA gives you 200 hours of actual recording time and you're encouraged to record in their studios on your own free time while attending the school-all for free of course. plus, once you graduate, you can record there for half price for life. It's a great place to build a solid protfolio of your work as well. Trebas has industry recognized pro gear but is 80 percent theory taught-enough said right there. Harris? well Harris is a joke when it comes to audio engineering education. most of their equipment is old and of c class quality like their cheap dbx compressors and limiters... i'm very serious about learning this craft so i did my homework and the first thing i checked out in each achool was the gear i would be taught on-relevant to to this ever evolving industry. if you want a ton of hands on experience; training from true professionals who are passionate about music and the science behind it; on relavant consoles and working with pro audio industry recognized DAWs...go to TARA-like me. As soon as I got interviewed by Damon, I knew I was at the right place. check it out man-you won't be disappointed. icon_biggrin.gif
