Product Recommendations?
Hey im looking to buy PC recording hardware, but i dont know which to get. Im looking for one with a sample rate of at least 96 khz, at least 2 inputs, and preferably can run on a pentium 3 laptop. Im trying to pay around 500 bucks.
I was looking at the Mackie Onyx 400f because of its 192 khz sample rate, but i later heard that the sound wont be that much different because of the mic quality. is that true?
Also, i dont need one with the software, i alreayd have accewss to that.
thanks in advance

Instead of buying the crappy Onyx, look into m-audio soundcards. THe delta 66 I think is around $300 now, and has a decent breakout box which can input and record as well as export 4 1/4" channels and 2 rca channels.
For $500 you can get the delta 1010 which is 8 1/4" ins / outs.
THe 192 khz boasted by Maki is a little of a farce IMO, trying to make a crappy product sound more appealing. Alll you really need is a 24 bit 96 khz interface.

The reason for no XLR inputs, is the delta series do not have built in pre-amps, in order to keep the signal cleaner.
If you have a preamp for your microphone(s), then you can go directly into a single chanell of the mAudio, or out of another piece of equipment ... a compressor etc.
Then have the mAudio outs each go to seperate channels of a mixer.
Thats the way I had it set up.
