Equalizing
Okay, so just got me a few equalizers to add to my small yet up and coming studio..
dual channel hardware 1/3 octave active equalizer, single channel passive 1/3 octave hardware, and Anwida plugin eq.
I wanted the hardware ones for my final mixdown, and a plugin to use inside the mix.
SO, now, I hook everything up and start messing around... whole new world to me.... just from playing around for a couple hours, I took the same song and made it sound like 2 completely different songs. I never realized how much difference the quality equalizers make so I decided to start a thread on how to use Equalizers, and proper equalizing techniques.
SO, lets discuss... Gain, Out, Q, and frequencies.
BlueBear has a good article on what each frequency set does at http://www.bluebearsound.com/articles/mixing101.htm The input gain and out are pretty self-explainatory, and the q setting is the bandwidth of each frequency, right? SO, let's go a little further in this discussion... what are some tips you could share with others on proper eq? Anything to add to this discussion?
All I have to say, is you can have all the bells, whistles, effects, etc in the world, but until you start equalizing and learning how and what to listen for, all the cool gadgets in the world will not add any worth to your mixes.

What discussion are you interested in getting goiing here?
And yes Q is bandwdith measured at -3dB each side of the center frequency. _________________ Recording Studio Suntans
