module midi help

I just want to do something simple - get an _expression pedal to globally control modulation on the module, but it just doesnt seem to work. I can get a volume to work, and im able to select different patches with my foot comtroller, but nothing else. I thought the comtrol number for modulation was # 1, but it doesnt work. Volume is # 7, and as soon as i entered i, it worked fine. I'm using a behringer FCB1010 as a foot controller - If you have any time, id appreciate the help.
Thanks again

Yes, 1, 01, is Modulation Wheel.

You've not mentioned the unit to be modulated, what is it, and are you sure it has the MIDI implementation to be modulated?

Its a Roland JV2080 (I should have posted that), but i figured it out. it was the foot controller's firmware. It needed to be updated. thanks for the reply, though.
