 Voice ontop of Music

What's up peoples, my name is James and I recently have became much more interested in a program called Adobe Audition. I'm sure some of you are familiar.

I pretty much know close to about nothing about the program, but am totally open to any input, info, or knowledge.

For starters I would just like to know how to play a song "instrumental" in my case, while I record a sound "my voice" coming from the microphone. The reason is to lay down my own lyric and track... and create a short song. And maybe some tips on how to get clean crisp voice and music playing all on one file.

read the manual and help files

I don't want to sound rude, but when I get a new program or piece of hardware I read the manual and help files. That usually answers most of my questions and gets me started. Then I just play around with settings and features to get familiar. Or even follow a quick tutorial (if one exists).

Recording overdubs of your voice should be simple. Just open the backingusic into new tracks and then create another new track for your vocals. Arm the new blank track for recording, select the input you are using your mic on and press record. You can hear the music playing in your hadphones while recording your voice.

There are other issues that can come up, such as latency and monitoring options, but let us know how it goes first. Then if you have more questions, ask away.

Ask your vocal recording tips question in "Musical Instrument Miking" or "Microphone Technique" icon_smile.gif
