Headset Mic Problem
Hey There-
I just purchased and setup a Presonus Inspire 1394 and 2 mxl condenser mics. The package came with Cubase LE, etc.. After setting all this up, recording is a breeze, no issue with that.
The issue is that the mic on my main PC headset (not hooked in to any recording hardware..just regular mic/headphone ports) just echoes my voice through the headphones when I speak into it. I've tried to change all my settings back to default SB Live for the microphone but I can't get the echo to stop. When I say echo I'm just saying that it's live, when I speak it comes out as I do it through my headphones.
Hope this makes sense to somebody. If you have any info/tips please let me know.
Thanks for your time-
Mike

It's called Latency that you are hearing.. the time taken to process the signal into the computer, convert it to whatever format you have set for your output, and out back to your headphones.
The 2 ways around this are setting an OUT channel on your soundcard to match the line IN, the other way involves setting the parameters for yoru soundcard to match whatever yoru soundcard inputs are. For example, if your soundcard records at 96K, 24 bits, then you set your output to that too, and will bring this latency down to a few milleseconds.. This happens with virtually any multitrack software, and pretty much any recording interface.

All that means is you have your OUT set to "IN" or "What you hear" that is not bad. If you want to mute it, it all depends on your soundcard. Soundblasters have a control panel where you choose what gets recorded and outputted, higher end soundcards have a patchbay or router.
