Asking for a sequencer recommendation

Hi folks,

Thanks in advance for your help. I recently acquired an athlon 2Gz computer with 512 ram. The sound card is by Nvidia - though I cannot seem to find the model number. I just purchased Reaktor 5 (which is great) and it runs fine standalone. Now I need a sequencer. Here is what I am looking for. I want to be able to work with up to 16 tracks of audio or MIDI. I don't really care if there are external microphone jacks provided or not - although that would be a plus. I want to be able to work pop free - on my last computer (pentium 3 880, 256 ram) I had big problems using pro tools free - it would start popping very quickly - even with only one track playing lol. At worst I would at least like to be able to mix two tracks down to one without pops. At best, I would like to be able to play with 8-16 tracks that way - but I am aware that my machine is not optimal and therefore may have limitations.

So, would anyone be so kind as to recommend me a multitrack audio/MIDI sequencer that works well with an athlon 2Gz/512 RAM computer? Thank you very much.

sequencer requirements

I would just check the system requirements of all the sequencers you would consider. This is something you can do your homework on easily online.

Cakewalk has Sonar, HomeStudio and Project5
Stienberg has Cubase and Nuendo
There's Propellerheads Reason
Pro Tools
N-Track Studio

I'm sure there's plenty of others, ya just gotta look.
Any of these should run on a newer computer, some may request more RAM, though.

I run cakewalk HomeStudio on an Athlon 1.8GHz with 512, recording up to 8 audio tracks at once (24bit/44.1KHz) no problem; and I can mix up to about 12 tracks before I get any serious problems. Sometimes I've got to make my buffers larger to get it to work with multiple tracks. So I get usually at least 10ms latency while recording and monitoring-- but more RAM is the best cure for that.
