Harmonic Distortion - THD

Complex sounds are made up of a variety of waveforms of varying frequencies and we can say therefore that all sounds have a "timbre" which is based on a fundamental frequency plus a series of harmonics of differing amplitudes.

Because ALL audio equipmnt is NON-LINEAR in nature additional harmonics can be added to the original sound wave.

The amount of harmonics added are quoted as a percentage, such as Total Harmonic Distortion (THD).
