if your going for affordable monitors go for control ones!!!! They are passive mind so yah u'd have bot get an amp but they rock!

Yah i didn't compress or limit my track because i was happy with the way it sounded... I left it so it was about -2 db at it's maximum peak it was pumping pretty loud but not distorting nice and clear ...

AKG 414 check it. The best thing u will get for recording vocals in your price range. Not that you'll need it but they make great overhead mics too!
